Social Justice Book Group will discuss books related to a topic of local, national or international importance. A librarian will introduce a book on the subject and group members are invited to introduce a book for discussion that they have read. They are encouraged to contribute to with discussion of a book on the topic they have read, or by sharing their experience or curiosity about the topic. The topic for July is Nuclear New Mexico. The featured book is Nuclear Nuevo México: Colonialism and the Effects of the Nuclear Industrial Complex on Nuevomexicanos by Myrriah Gómez.
Gómez examines the experiences of Nuevomexicanas/os who have been impacted by the nuclear industrial complex, both the weapons industry and the commercial industry. Book group members don’t necessarily have to read the featured book.
