About this Event
About this event
Housing costs are rising across the nation. While this is an issue for many,
minoritised communities are impacted at disproportionate rates due to
socioeconomic and structural factors.
While Black and minoritised communities need to access support with housing, they
face barriers such as a lack of knowledge of options and resources available. BSWN
research into the experiences of minoritised communities in social housing included
speaking to a range of actors in this area such as community strategic leaders. A key
point raised was the complexity of the housing register bidding process, the bureaucracy around social housing.
These workshops provide a useful starting point to bridging this gap by addressing questions and concerns members of minoritised communities have regarding social housing. By providing a space for engagement, these workshops are intended to improve accessibility to council housing services leading to a more productive relationship between the Council and these communities.
The session will be focused on the following issues identified by minoritised
communities:
● Anti-Social Behaviour
● Damp and Mould
● HomeChoice
● Repairs
BSWN will be running this session in partnership with the Southmead Somali Association in providing integration and welfare advice. SSA provides:
- Community Advice & information: SSA Offers assistance to women in the field of education, entrepreneurship, and entering the taxi industry. They provide guidance on personal education for individuals and for their children.
