Social dance Etiquettes
In open format, open for anyone social dancing we do here at 3rd Street Promenade, anyone can ask anyone for a dance, and anyone can also politely decline. If at any point during a dance you feel uncomfortable, it's perfectly fine to stop and politely say, "Thank you, I'd like to stop dancing" If you're out dancing with a partner or significant other, be aware that other dancers might ask them for a dance without knowing you're together. In such cases, you can simply stay close together near the DJ booth and enjoy dancing, as this will be noticed by other social dancers.
If you're declined for a dance, don't take it personally—just move on. There will be more opportunities to dance.
While social dancing can be improved with practice, learning about salsa and other dance styles at a studio is also highly recommended. It not only helps you grow as a dancer but contributes positively to the entire dance community.
If people or you say "you like to dance" or that "you can dance" have you actually social danced? Social dancing and social-partner dancing goes beyond just moving to music—it's about learning, growing, and appreciating dance styles like salsa. It's essential to understand the different types of salsa, such as LA Style Salsa On1 (which often includes dips, showy moves, and athleticism), Salsa On2, Cuban Salsa, Sensual Bachata, and Traditional Bachata, among others. Each style has its unique flavor, and embracing them will enhance your experience as a social dancer. Welcome, see you on 3rd Street!
Learning how to actually dance-social dance, is like gaining the ability to speak a new language! Once you have these skills, you can enjoy social dancing at events happening weekly, not only in LA but all around the world!
