In my real-world job, I get to help families from all different backgrounds and with various characteristics. Recently I worked with a family with deaf parents and hearing children. It was an amazing and challenging experience! Not too long afterwards, I saw a post about the "ASL for All" 5K in Olathe, KS. It's a fundraiser to foster Olathe as a "Shared Signing Community"! Shared signing communities are localities where both Deaf and non-Deaf community members use a shared visual language to communicate with one another. Non-Signers are welcomed! That's good, because I can't say much without a hearing interpreter. But I want to learn more! If that also describes you, come and join me. At this time, I honestly don't know quite what the costume will be, or if there will even be a soundtrack, but it's worth my time no matter what. (Note: This event is not the race link. See the ticket URL for race signup to participate.)
