Beginners soap making workshop. Learn how to make soap from scratch using the cold process technique. This is a theory and practical based workshop, covering how to calculate your own recipes, how to fragrance and colour your soaps, and different soap making ingredients.
Topics covered:
- History of soap making
- How soap is made
- What equipment do you need (and don’t need)
- Where to get supplies from
- Difference between cold process, hot process methods
- Fragrances and how they can influence the chemical reaction
- Different kinds of colourants, including mica, neons, natural colourants
- Additives, such as milk, honey, clays and exfoliants
- Emulsion, fluidity and how to control the chemical reaction
- How soap works
- Chemistry of soap making
- Oils and fats
- Creating and calculating your own recipes
- The role of water in your recipe
- Why and how to cure your soaps
- Troubleshooting and common problems in soap making
You’ll be making 500 ml of natural, castile (olive oil) soap - a mild and gentle soap for sensitive skin
And you’ll be making several pretty soap cupcakes
You will also be getting several other recipes throughout the day, that you can make at home
Included are all the materials, equipment and handouts.
You’ll have the opportunity to buy kits and moulds on the day, if you want to continue making soaps at home.
