About the Lecturer:
The Very Rev'd. Canon Richard Sewell is British and prior to serving in Jerusalem, he was a priest in the Diocese of Southwark in the UK. His last post there was as Team Rector of Barnes Team Ministry which comprises three churches in South West London.
As Dean of St George’s College, Richard runs the Anglican centre for pilgrimage in the Holy Land. The College runs 24 pilgrimages per year which visit the holy places but also gives all pilgrims the chance to meet the people of the Land and to gain clear insights into historical and current political realities.
Prior to his ordination, Dean Richard worked for the Anglican mission agency, USPG, as a mission educator with additional responsibilities for USPG’s relationship with the Churches in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Richard’s wife, JulieAnn, works as a volunteer fundraiser at the Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre. This Diocesan institution provides therapies for children with disabilities in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. Richard and JulieAnn’s adult children, Nathaniel and Eliana, continue to pursue their careers in the UK.
In addition to his role as Dean of the College, Dean Richard is a Residentiary Canon of St George’s Cathedral, Jerusalem, and Honorary Canon of Southwark Cathedral in his home diocese in the Church of England.
