About this Event
The sanskrit word Abhisheka is composed of two elements: "Abhi," meaning "great" or "noble," and "sheka” which translates to “to pour” or “to anoint.” Abhisheka or Snana means ceremonial bathing of the great Lord in the deity form for the purpose of giving pleasure to Their Lordships. The Deity form is a merciful manifestation of the Supreme Lord for the purpose of facilitating a personal and tangible relationship with His devotees. Through devotional service to the deity the soul can advance in its spiritual journey and deepen its devotion and love for the Supreme.
Snana or Ceremonial bathing of the deity is a seva performed daily as well as on special occasions for giving pleasure to the Lord. During this ceremonial bathing ceremony, Their Lordhisps are anointed or bathed with various sacred substances, such as water, yogurt, milk, honey, ghee or fragrant oils. When the root is watered the whole tree is nourished similarly when the Lord is satisfied, the entire existence is satisfied. Through giving pleasure to the Lord, one’s very self is also pleased and purified.
The pouring of these items symbolizes the pouring of a devotee’s purest love for God and God pours his blessings up on that devotee. By performing this ceremony, one’s mind and senses get purified and washes away their sins. Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita (9.34) “Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.”
Please join us for a special Snanotsavam on the auspicious day of Janmashtami.
Our event is an opportunity to come together, perform/witness Abhishekam to Lordships and receive divine blessings.
The evening will include kirtan, an Abhishekam ceremony led by our temple priests where people can participate by purchasing tickets. The Abhishekam participants will receive a kit consisting of Lord's blessings.
