Student Requirements- Age: 12 years to adult

Course Description
Snake River Quail Forever, Caldwell Gun Club, K Bar T Pheasant Shooting Preserve, and dog/handler pairs from the finest gun dog organizations in Idaho's Treasure Valley are collaborating again to prepare another group of hunters to venture into Idaho's uplands.
Over seven course meetings, students from 12 years to adults will learn to safely hunt upland birds on the wing. Topics taught include firearms safety, eye dominance, gun fit, firearm manipulation, gun mount, stance, sight picture, target engagement techniques, hunting over dogs, and more. The program is taught by volunteers who are experienced upland hunters.
The class will meet the following Sundays: 8/24/25, 9/7/25, 9/14/25, 9/21/25, 9/28/25, 10/5/25 and 10/12/25. The first six class meetings will take place at the Caldwell Gun Club from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
A morning hunt of planted gamebirds will take place on Sunday, 10/12, at K Bar T Pheasant Preserve located 30 minutes east of Boise. The students will be paired with a mentor and dog handler who will assist them in hunting and harvesting planted game birds.
Requirements and Equipment
Students are required to have successfully completed an Idaho-recognized Hunter Education course PRIOR to signing up for this course. Students are required to possess am Idaho hunting license or Hunting Passport to participate in the preserve hunt.
Students are required to provide the following at each class session: eye protection, hearing protection (low profile ear muffs such as the Peltor Sport RangeGuard Electronic Hearing Protector) and a means of carrying extra ammunition. Students will need to have 75 rounds of shotgun ammunition available each session. Target ammunition will be available for purchase at the range; hunting ammunition will be provided.
Students are welcome to bring a shotgun for use during the class. A limited number of reduced length 20 and 28 gauge shotguns are available for use during class at no charge. Parents are encouraged to consult with an instructor prior to purchasing a shotgun for their child.
Returning Students
Returning students are requested to wait until 8/10 to sign up for the course to ensure new students have access to the program.
