2 Day Smokefree Advisor Training
This course is for those already working in a health care, education or social care setting, In North Somerset who wish to offer a smokefree service to their population. Please email us if you are unsure about this criteria
The training will enable participants to be competent in knowledge and skills to deliver support and offer medications to individuals wishing to become smoke free.
Smoking is a major cause of premature mortality and health inequalities, 70% of smokers want to stop, but many are unaware of where and how to get help. This course will equip you with the tools to enable and support people to make the changes they need to stop smoking.
Participants must attend both days of the course and have their line manager’s approval to deliver a service and commit to continue their development with an annual update.
Participants must complete brief advice training before attending day 1 of this course, this is a 30 minute online professional update entitled “Very Brief Advice on Smoking” training module. The training is based around short film clips providing examples of how Very Brief Advice can be delivered, and includes key facts, figures and messages. *Please ensure you have completed the online training module prior to attending day 1 of this course*and have your line manager’s approval to deliver a service and commit to continue their development with an annual update.
Both days are mandatory to receive accreditation. Please ensure you book a ticket for both days.
The course is a mixture of presentations, discussions, and demonstration and by signing up to attend this course you will be expected to participate in all elements of the training.
There is no formal assessment at the end of the course, but practitioners will be visited in their individual settings for support and to assess competency.

- Nicotine Addiction (Why individuals smoke and why it is hard to stop)
- Smoking and health
- Smoking cessation treatments
- Behavioural support
- Paperwork and procedures
Please be aware there is no parking at this venue but various local carparks and on road parking are available nearby. Train and bus routes are located nearby. Training will start at promptly at 9:30, so please allow time to find a parking space. Please bring your own lunch, tea and coffee will be available.
