1)QUARTETTO MAURICE
works by Fausto Romitelli and Mauro Lanza
An interesting exploration within the repertoire for string quartet and electronics, a theme that the Maurice Quartet has been delving into for several years with the project 4+1. Natura morta con fiamme by Fausto Romitelli stands as a cornerstone of their repertoire, with a refined search for fusion between the acoustic sound of the quartet and the incandescent electronic track. The triptych Aether Is a Haunted Place by Mauro Lanza, dedicated to Romitelli himself, is a cycle of three pieces for “augmented” string quartet with electronics and instrumental preparations. The three pieces are based on audio recordings from various realms: Memories of the Space Age is formed with sounds offered by the cosmos, The Voices Didn’t Stop After the War is based on sounds from the world of the deceased (Electronic Voice Phenomenon), and finally, The 1987 Max Headroom Broadcast Incident is inspired by the pirate interference on cable TV during a famous American broadcast in 1987.
Winner of XXV Music critics Award Franco Abbiati in 2015, and of the Stipendium as Best Interpreters’ at Ferienkurse fur Neue Musik in Darmstadt in 2016, the Maurice Quartet was founded in 2002 ad focuses its artistic experience on 20th century and contemporary music. The Quartet believes in promoting new music though commissioning works to young composers, and therefore encouraging a fresh, rich and multifarious musical production. A special project “4+1” is meant to deepen the relationship with electronic music and the exploration of the new possibilities it offers to the string quartet. The Quartet has performed throughout Italy and abroad, in a number of prestigious venues.

2)SOUMAYA PHÉLINE
Soumaya Pheline explores CDJism/turntablism with a focus on DJing’s performative aspect, redefining CDJs, turntables, and mixers as creative instruments. Her cinematic approach transforms tracks into narrative tools, crafting immersive sonic storytelling.
Jamming plays a central role, generating a rich pool of audio and visual material for sampling and refining choreographic movements. Pushing musical and bodily boundaries, she balances precision and improvisation, embracing the spirit of reinvention inherent in turntablism.
Soumaya Phéline, active since 2006, is a DJ & sound performer, music researcher & curator blending bass-heavy beats, polyrhythms, and narrative. She challenges DJing cliches and boundaries, promotes inclusivity, and rethinks club culture. Founder of Another Way to Play, a platform focused on turntablism/CDJ exploration.
