Protecting the Markets vs. Growing the Markets– How Can Regulatory Innovation Drive Business Growth and Increased Entrepreneurship in Alberta?

Starting with a review of the trendlines in the continuing migration of operating companies from the public markets to the private markets in Canada, Dan will discuss the major actors contributing to the phenomenon of public company decline. Dan will then discuss a number of innovative (and sometimes radical) ideas for using regulatory innovation to reverse the tide of public company decline and stimulate the junior and senior capital markets in Alberta.

Dan Wilson - Before joining academia, Dan Wilson spent more than 25 years as a securities and M&A lawyer, a serial entrepreneur and a senior executive of a variety of public and private companies domestically and abroad. Dan now serves as Chair in Business Law & Regulation and Associate Dean, Academic in the Faculty of Law, University of Calgary. Dan’s research focuses on the regulation of the private and public markets in Canada, looking for ways to use regulatory innovation to stimulate Canadian capital formation and entrepreneurship
