The 6th Annual Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival is set for Saturday, May 3 on the beautiful campus of LSU Shreveport. The annual event is a family-friendly, daylong literary celebration featuring children’s book authors and illustrators, costumed characters, and interactive games and activities for children and families. The 2025 event will take place on Saturday, May 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the grounds of LSUS, and admission to the festival is free and open to the public.
Created in 2018 under the vision and guidance of Shreve Memorial Library Executive Director, John Tuggle, the Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival encourages children to develop an early love of reading and promotes early childhood literacy, bringing together authors, illustrators and the community to celebrate literacy. The 2025 Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival will be presented in memory of John Tuggle, who sadly passed away in September 2024 after a battle with cancer.
Headlining this year’s Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival is the author of the Dork Diaries series, Rachel Renée Russell, and daughter, Nikki Russell, the illustrator of the series and inspiration for the series’ main character Nikki Maxwell. Also attending are Alicia Salazar, author of the Camila the Star series, Greg Foley, author of the Dex Dingo graphic novel series, and Charlotte Gunnufson, author of children’s books Hard Hat Hank and the Sky-High Solution and Dream Submarine. Children, parents and all festival attendees will have an opportunity to meet each of these authors, have autographs signed, and see the authors bring their stories and experiences to life on stage.
Local authors and illustrators are encouraged and invited to participate in the festival by reserving a 10’x10’ booth space to share their works as well. Booth spaces are available for $25 each and include listing in the Children’s Book Festival Guide, table and chairs. Those interested in being a part of the festival are asked to contact Emily Horan at (318) 226-4980 or via email at [email protected].
Community groups, organizations, and businesses are also invited to join Shreve Memorial Library in Literacy Lane, a special area of the Children’s Book Festival where community partners come together to promote a love of reading and lifelong learning in fun, interactive ways. Organizations are encouraged to sign up for a free booth space to provide FREE activities or games for children and festival attendees. Those interested in being a part of Literacy Lane are asked to contact Samantha Bonnette at (318) 213-4992 or via email at [email protected].
The deadline for reserving an author booth or a spot in Literacy Lane is Thursday, April 17, 2025.
