Group Rides are Back!
Duration: 1 hr 30 min
******** It's getting to be that time of year again, the days are getting shorter and by 8-815 its getting a bit dark in the trees. Start thinking about lights and strongly suggested you throw a light kit in your pack, especially for anyone riding with A or B group **********
Meeting Point: Main South March Trail head at the intersection of Second Line and Klondike
Post Ride social at Barley Mow 700 March Rd, Kanata, ON K2K 1L3
Ready to ride: 6:30pm
Expectation: Rides will be broken down into groups (described below) and designated as “no drop” so the groups will stay together. Groups will be kept to around 8 riders including lead and sweep for best flow. Riders should be self sufficient as in having a spare tube, pump or CO2 and some knowledge on the workings of their bike. These rides are intended to be a positive and supportive outing. For South March a mountain bike is required, it is recommended tires be 2.2 inches or greater in size.
Waivers: Please make sure you bring a signed copy of our waiver if not a current OMBA member. Members need to confirm their waivers annually. Waivers to download can be found at: https://www.ottawamba.org/waiver?fbclid=IwY2xjawKZZD5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETFWZGl1eEZSdEF3RDJhUHlqAR6p2GKTGoHyVSXtl39aGodH57wg0bXoNKzKiaBGXbF24gTOZjU8hdDMM-FoeQ_aem_EYZWcy8KvJZUZhlaGAEI1A
Weather cancellation will be decided by 5PM. Cancellations could be due to expected weather (High winds, lightning) or if conditions are too wet and will cause excessive damage to the trails.
Minors: OMBA insurance requires that minors are accompanied by an adult during these rides and that waivers/membership rules apply. While we are looking into what is required to be able to host youth specific rides our hands are tied at this time. Any minors that show up without an adult will be turned away unfortunately. The waiver defines what is considered a minor.
D Group:
Ride Leader: Kevin
Sweep: TBD
Level: Beginner riders but not new to trail riding.
Expectation: Our D group rides are geared towards riders that are starting to explore South March but are not new to the concept of riding single track or ungroomed trails with rocks and roots.
The Ride: D Group will ride the core trails such as Coconut Tree, Dogsled, Bear Tree, and Shadows Ridge to introduce the trails and build confidence. Expect frequent stops to regroup.
Ride Duration: 90 min typically early in the season and depending on the group.
C Group:
Ride Leader: Mike/Adam
Sweep: TBD
Level: Beginner to Intermediate rider
Expectation: The C group will be geared for riders that are starting to ride trails such as PWT (Pete's Wicked Trail) but may not be comfortable riding it solo for example. C group rides have the expectation of frequent stops at more challenging sections and to regroup/rest.
The Ride: Early season rides will focus on PWT and as the season goes on will add other trails before or after PWT.
Duration: Expect to be on the bike 90 min to 2 hours keeping in mind frequent stops to regroup and allow riders room to do more technical sections.
B Group:
Ride Leader(s): Kyle/Neil
Sweep: TBD
Level: Intermediate
Expectation: B Group Rides are ideal for the rider that can ride either PWT OR Outback in the indicated time frame not necessarily clean (free of having to step off the pedals) and not riding at your maximum limit. Typically riders in this group frequent SMH and are building their skills by observing other riders or looking for more of a social ride.
The Ride: These rides will typically focus on PWT with a mix of other core trails and as the season progresses may switch to Outback depending on audience and duration of daylight.
Duration: These rides will be between 90 min and 2 hours but with shorter stops to regroup and then continue.
A Group:
Ride Leader: TBD
Sweep: TBD
Level: Advanced Rider (fastest/most ambitious group of the night)
Expectation: Typical A Group riders are capable of riding both PWT and Outback in the allotted time without overextending themselves. Since this is the most advanced group of riders ride leaders will be prioritized for the other groups so some weeks this ride may be consider “self lead”
The Ride: These rides will be driven by the group but will typically explore the more advanced trails with the expectation of reasonable pace the full ride with short, quick stops.
Duration: These rides will typically be the full 2 hours with the majority of the time moving.
