SECRET MOVIE CLUB presents
The Secret Movie Club Workshop SCENE LAB SERIES!
Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at 7:30pm, the Secret Movie Club Theater, 1917 Bay Street, Floor 2, Los Angeles, CA 90021
Secret Movie Club Workshop is a Los Angeles-based creative engagement program, platforming and supporting independent art from script to screen.
Do you have a script you’d like to hear read aloud? Do you want to work on your acting chops with fellow performers? Do you want the chance to network and connect with industry and creative peers?
Join us for the monthly “Staged Reading Series”, where creatives join in a community to workshop scenes and develop their projects in a no-stress and pressure-free environment.

For Writers/Directors/Producers:
- Submit a scene up to five (5) pages long, containing no more than four (4) characters
- One scene per team per month
- Adhere to basic decency standards (no punching down, no intentionally being mean or hateful or devoid of artistic merit)
- Include a 1-3 sentence logline, the genre, and a 1-3 sentence description of each character
- If you’re selected, you will receive a confirmation email of your spot!
- Up to 2 people from your team can attend, if confirmed via email
For Performers:
- Please submit your headshot and resume to the submission portal.
- If we fill up our actor quota for a month, we’ll offer you a slot for the next open month.
Filmmakers will get confirmed on a first come first serve basis, up to 5-8 scripts. So if we fill up one month, we’ll offer you a space in our next open workshop.
Held at the iconic DTLA loft-style Secret Movie Club theater
LOCATION: The Secret Movie Club Theater, 1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90021
This is part of a longer-term filmmaking community incubation project. Ultimately we will be adding once a season staged readings of scenes that have been workshopped and polished. At these staged readings, all filmmaking creatives (directors, producers, writers, actors, cinematographers, editors, etc) will be invited to hear the staged readings then form groups to SHOOT the scene.
Completed scenes/shorts will then be shown in showcases. Secret Movie Club wants to be an incubator for meeting, forming thriving creative teams, and completing filmmaking projects.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
REFUNDS:
We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.
However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write to us before showtime: [email protected] and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening, good for 90 days. (Disclaimer: Future screening must have available tickets, cannot be a fundraiser, and must be comparably priced)
THEATER PARKING TIPS:
We recommend that you park just outside our theater. Remember our theater is actually in a beautiful street art alleyway in the back of the 1917 Bay Street building. You get to our entrance by taking a right on Wilson, then a right behind the building. We are the first set of black steps on the right after the big gate.
There is also a parking lot at the corner of Mateo and Violet Street, just 2 blocks from our theater, which costs $7 per car.
*Please note entrance/parking is actually in the back of the 1917 Bay St building. Our entrance is NOT on Bay Street. You access our entrance from Wilson Street by turning into the street art alleyway/corridor in the back of the building. Look for our signs which are always posted on Wilson and in the corridor to guide the audience.
