About this Event
The Smart Cycling Part 2 (On Bike) class is a 6-hour outdoor workshop where you will learn and practice all the different techniques and situations that you learned in Smart Cycling Part 1 (Classroom) while working in small groups with our certified League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) to improve your bicycle handling skills, ride defensively to avoid crashes, and learn crash-avoidance maneuvers in case of emergencies.
It will prepare you to bike confidently on any street. This class is open to anyone age 14 and older. Attendees must bring a well maintained functional bicycle they can ride and their helmet. We recommend bringing plenty of water. We will have a stop during the teaching ride to pick up lunch and have time to eat.
What past attendees have said about the class:
- "Amazing! Very helpful instruction and fun and supportive instructors. Well structured!" - Cathy T. (there was rain during her class)
- "Gave me more confidence in riding in the street. Experience is the best and sometimes only true teacher." - Christopher G.
- "Made me more confident on the road, taking the lane, and being a defensive cyclist." - Francisco M.
- "I am more careful about lane changes and looking for obstacles in my path." - John C.
- "I’m now more comfortable using my bike for commuting." - Ben P.
The class is held outdoors in the Berryessa Transit Center Parking garage 5th floor (park on 4th or lower floors) 1585 Mabury Rd, San Jose, CA 95133) if it is raining or at the nearby surface parking lot (1640 Berryessa Station Way, San Jose, CA 95133) if it is NOT raining.
