About this Event
Welcome to the Club - the Book Club, that is! This monthly event will endeavor to bring you books you haven’t read before from the stories and voices of a diverse collection of authors.
We are so thrilled to be hosting our next book club at Small Gods Brewing Co. While some of our books will be selected from the novels our beers are named after, some of the others will just be novels we cannot wait to discuss with you!
On the Book: opens with a present-day amateur historian, Anne, who describes her unexpected discovery of five seventeenth-century manuscripts that, astonishingly, tell the same strange story from vastly different points of view. The five manuscripts spin a tale of two bonded children who are separated and later find each other as adults and fall in love, but their lives descend again into turmoil. And so it falls upon Anne, the contemporary historian, to piece together these interlocking stories, discover the fate of the lovers, and add her own layer of “truth” to a history and time period when there were no labels for who the two lovers may truly be.
On the Author: Anne Fleming writes short stories, novels, poems, essays and books for children. Anne’s writing has won National Magazine awards and has been shortlisted for the Governor-General’s Award, the Journey Prize, the Danuta Gleed Award, the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize, the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, and Italy’s Premio Strega children’s prize. The Goat, named one of the ten best children’s books of the year by The Wall Street Journal and the New York Public Library, was also a White Ravens winner and Junior Library Guild selection. Anne teaches Creative Writing at UBC’s Okanagan Campus.
