Join us for a session of educational insight for small business owners. The topic for this workshop will be "Grant Writing". Our presenter for this session is Dr. Jean Haskell. Dr. Haskell is Professor of Appalachian Studies (retired) and consultant on Appalachian regional development and cultural heritage. Dr. Haskell is co-editor of the award-winning Encyclopedia of Appalachia, co-editor of Performance, Culture, and Identity, and author of The Appalachian Photographs of Earl Palmer, plus scores of book chapters, articles, reports, and other publications.
She has done consulting work with the National Park Service, including serving on the planning and design team for the Blue Ridge Music Center; the Smithsonian Folklife Festival as curator of the 2003 Appalachian program (Appalachia, Heritage and Harmony); Birthplace of Country Music Alliance (that helped create the Museum in Bristol, TN/VA; several universities; PBS; University of Jyäskylä, Finland; and the Musée National des Arts et Traditions Populaires (Paris, France); and numerous other organizations. She has been writing and securing grants for more than 50 years for university programs and nonprofit organizations.
Dr. Haskell’s research interests have focused on Appalachian history and heritage, regional economic development, foodways, and heritage music. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Montgomery JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) program and on the Program Committee of the Lifelong Learning Institute at Virginia Tech.
This series is designed for Chamber Members who want to learn about topics that directly impact their businesses. Our workshops cover essential subjects like marketing, financial planning, legal issues, technology trends, and other member-submitted topics, and will feature experts who offer practical advice and strategies. Attendees will have the chance to network with fellow Chamber Members and professionals, share experiences, and build relationships that can lead to new opportunities.
