Mark your calendars and join us for an engaging discussion on how to overcome the obstacles of a slow concussion recovery and get your client back on the right recovery trajectory.

Concussion recovery is expected in 2-3 weeks, in healthy adults, after initial medical clearance & rest for 48-72 hours then gradual return to activity. Symptoms lasting longer than this time are Persistent Concussion Symptoms (also known as PCS or Post-Concussion Symptoms). This is prevalent in around 20% of individuals who suffer a concussion (mild traumatic brain injury) and can be more prevalent after accidents that are not sport related, such as in motor vehicles or at work. These events are often unexpected, emotionally charged, or associated with multiple or even life-threatening injuries. There is controversy regarding the diagnosis of PCS because of symptom overlap with other conditions that can occur after traumatic accidents. Examples include depression, anxiety, post traumatic-stress disorder, persistent pain, post-traumatic headache & whiplash-associated disorder. (1)

We will unpack these concepts and controversies, and explain how coordinated interdisciplinary assessment, intervention, and monitoring using valid assessment tools can support recovery and return to full function.
