Slides, Flows, and Floods: Hurricane Helene's Geologic Impact

This class investigates how record rainfall, induced by weather events including Hurricane Helene, caused historical floods and landslides in Western North Carolina. Included in this course is a look data found in hazard, topographic, and watershed maps, and in river hydrographs

This program takes place in the classroom and outdoors. Please come prepared to walk on gentle, yet uneven terrain, and dress appropriately for the weather.

Anton DuMars, a resident of Black Mountain, NC, is an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston. His geological interests include fluvial, deltaic, and coastal processes. Ideally, he’s spending time on a hiking trail or aboard his sailboat.
