Stucco
Post-punk outfit Stucco burst onto the scene with their incendiary release, EP1. They excel at thick, velvety basslines, wiry guitars and vocals proclaiming the drudgeries of our so-called modern life. Distilling influences from seminal post-punk and art rock groups, Stucco builds upon the time-honoured tradition of using music as a catalyst for shaking up the system.
Witch Victim
There’s always been a touch of shoegaze heaviness in Witch Victim’s droning psych jams, but latest single “Sleep Coda” goes all in with a luscious wall of distortion and dreamily chanted wordplay. Icy cold post-punk can be warmed by blazingly warm fuzz rock, and this quintet of Calgary scene champs is ready to start the fire.
Dial Up
Featuring an eclectic lineup of Calgary mainstays, Dial Up is Calgary’s latest art-punk sensation. With wobbly bass lines and disarmingly jangly synth work, this energetic quintet wields the no-wave antagonism of James Chance like a sonic weapon. After touring Canada in support of their debut EP, Dial Up makes landfall at Sled Island.
