New Age Doom
What if Black Sabbath went to India instead of The Beatles all those years ago? New Age Doom might be the answer. The two-piece experimental band mixes elements of free-form jazz with a low-end doom metal drone to create something melodic and ethereal, like the soundtrack to a vivid lucid dream.
respectfulchild
Like the first gentle snowfall of the winter, Treaty 6’s respectfulchild creates ambient soundscapes that envelop listeners like an auditory hug. Their latest release 更新 re:new – which was produced by Rae Spoon – conjures up a dreamscape of looped violin instrumentals driven by themes of self-exploration, rebirth and appreciation of life.
okpk
From the euphoric club sounds of double-single “I Saw You Standing In The Fog / Halfway Up” to the recent series of 140 BPM releases exploring texture, experimental bass music producer okpk has range. He’s played at New Forms and Bass Coast (as well as Sled Island) and caters his eclectic style to the occasion. Wherever you find him at the festival this year, he’ll make it a seamless experience.
k.burwash
Edmonton's Kris Burwash is no stranger to esoteric, experimental, and avant-garde music. Under the alias k.burwash, he has taken a unique approach to creating hazy ambient compositions. His electronic live shows summon drone and experimental elements to create an intersection of art and meditation.
Hailstones
Led by Hesam Ohadi – who made electronic music for more than a decade before forming this band – dream-pop/shoegaze act Hailstones make music cloaked in gloom that combusts at just the right moment. Among its moody milieu, Ohadi alternates between valley-deep vocals and a stirring falsetto.
