Sam TudorSinger-songwriter Sam Tudor’s solo work is a highly collaborative vehicle for his expressive voice and plaintive lyrical style. Tudor’s singing and guitar are the anchors, but elements of jazz and electronic music swirl their way into his sound, creating new textures from moment to moment. His January single “Do You Feel Free Now?” is a great example of the subtle flavours his accompaniment brings out.
Wallgrin
The airy experimental pop project of Vancouver-based violinist/composer Tegan Wahlgren, Wallgrin is an impressively dynamic play of compositions that merge Wahlgren’s operatic vocal range with romantic bass riffs. Brand new single “Arrow to the Wind” is an avant-pop ritual that radiates with choral vocals that envelops listeners, as will their raw live performance.
Emilie Kahn
Harpist and singer-songwriter makes warm, enveloping pop music that slips between sounding timeless and positively modern. Maybe, her album for Secret City Records, shows songwriting chops and command of melody similar to one of her faves: Taylor Swift. Live, she is accompanied by popular fellow Montreal musicians Cedric Noel, Thanya Iyer and Pompey.
Bennett Mitchell
Layering relaxed vocal delivery over a sparse blend of folk and country twang, Bennett Mitchell writes plaintively nostalgic ballads about life and love. His vivid imagery is both comforting and mournful, sharing glimpses of his life that invite the listener to join in with their reflection and contemplation. Come and be whisked away by one of Calgary’s most unique songwriters.
