The Rifle Country Players
Country act The Rifle County Players began as a way for a few local punks to play covers and explore outside of their comfort. Flash-forward a few years and it’s become a formal pursuit — though still with a bit of tongue-in-cheek. Tracks like “Linguine Western” and “Cardiac Ranch” embrace what makes classic country great, including a slice of camp.
Skinny Dyck
Ryan Dyck is a Prairies singer-songwriter whose tongue is firmly in cheek as Skinny Dyck. His easygoing output of folk melodies will subtly veer you off the country path into a parallel atmosphere of nostalgic twang, best heard on his latest single “Can’t Change the Colour of Your Eyes.” Join Dyck on an alt-country ride with original, mischievous intentions.
Liquor Mountain
On the title track of the East Dooley EP, Liquor Mountain fully embraces rollicking pop country to convey the dust-swept imagery of Alberta’s Badlands. “Gathering Flowers for the Master’s Bouquet,” meanwhile, is a psych-tinged cover of a country standard that's fit for head-banging or two-stepping. Expect either/or when this alt-country outfit returns to Sled Island.
