The History of Slam the Stigma:
Slam the Stigma began in the fall of 2022, created by the family of a student who died by suicide. The first event took place during the Clarion–Goldfield–Dows vs. Eagle Grove basketball games.
Local mental health and suicide prevention resources were invited to set up tables for guests to visit and learn from. The response was overwhelmingly positive—many organizations felt it was a powerful way to reach students, families, and community members. That same season, the idea expanded with a Slam the Stigma night at Fort Dodge Senior High.
Since then, the effort has continued to grow, carrying forward the meaningful event that began in Clarion–Goldfield–Dows and extending its impact to more communities each year.
