Slam Poetry @ Politics and Prose Bookstore

The Italian Cultural Institute and Politics and Prose Bookstore invite you to a lively evening of non-competitive Slam Poetry with poets Giuliano Logos, 2021 Poetry Slam World Champion, Olympia and Regie Cabico and . Poets will alternate their repertoires in Italian and English. Subtitles will be provided in each language.

GIULIANO LOGOS

The performance artist, poet and rapper Giuliano Logos, founder of the artistic collective WOW - Incendi Spontanei, is 2021 Poetry Slam World Champion and the first Italian artist to win this title (XV Grand Slam World Cup, Paris 2021). In 2019 he opened his solo show tour "MÖBIUS - Interactive performance poetry show", performed in Italy, France, Germany and Belgium: a show, sweetened by the science fiction setting of time travel, in which the audience decides the course of events, addressing the modern individual's relationship with society and the search for his or her ultimate purpose. In 2022 he presented his new solo show “ABRAXAS”.

Topics addressed: Relations between man, time and work alienation in contemporary society; Necessary collective environmental awareness in the face of imminent climate collapse; Socio-economic distortions of contemporary society (migration, southern question, prospects for new generations); History and traditions of the Italian South.

OLYMPIA

Olympia - poet and performer of WOW - Incendi Spontanei - investigates issues related to intersectional feminism, gender issues, queerness, body and sex positivity. In 2022 she presented her performance poetry solo show “Polyrhythm”, about polyamory and consensual non-monogamies, premiered within “Not of Only Sex - a sex positive festival”. Active in the field of contemporary art, she has her studio at Ombrelloni Art Space in Rome's San Lorenzo Art District. She is currently working on the performance project OnlyPoetryFans, focused on poetry and sex work. She has presented her works for Villa Medici - Academy of France in Rome, Casa Internazionale delle Donne (Rome) and Galleria d'Arte Contemporanea di Roma Capitale.

Topics addressed: intersectional feminist activism: advocacy for the rights of the Lgbtq+ community; contemporary society's relationship to women's body image; promotion of the importance of sex-affective education, with a focus on the dynamics of consent, sex positivity, and non-monogamous relational orientations such as polyamory; dynamics of possession and power related to environment and society.

REGIE CABICO

Regie Cabico is a spoken word pioneer, having won The Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam and later taking top prizes in three National Poetry Slams. He received his BFA at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and a 2006 NYU Asian Pacific American Studies Artist In Residence. Television credits include 2 seasons of HBO's Def Poetry Jam, NPR's Snap Judgement & MTV's Free Your Mind. His work appears in over 30 anthologies including "Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Café", "Spoken Word Revolution & The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry". Regie Cabico received the 2006 Writers for Writers Award from Poets & Writers for his work teaching at-risk youth at Bellevue Hospital. As a theater artist, he received three New York Innovative Theater Award Nominations for his work in "Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind" with a win for Best Performance Art Production. The Kenyon Review recently named Regie Cabico the "Lady Gaga of Poetry" and he has been listed in BUST magazine's 100 Men We Love. He has shared the stage with Patti Smith, Allen Ginsberg and through Howard Zinn's Portraits Project at NYU, has performed with Stanley Tucci, Jesse Eisenberg & Lupe Fiasco.
