About this Event
Welcome
Welcome to the 2025 Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Early Years Conference, “Inclusion: Creating spaces of Belonging”. Our conference theme underscores our commitment to the right of every child to feel a sense of belonging within early childhood classrooms and to creating opportunities to support for educators in their pedagogical ability to hold space for complexity (ECEBC position paper, Feb 2022).
We recognize the challenges of working within the complexities of children’s lived experiences and realities. As early childhood educators, scholars and professionals working with children and families within our communities, we aim to bring together a community of educators and scholars to explore these challenges. With a commitment to creating more inclusive spaces for all children to learn to live well together, this conference serves as an integral platform to support the pedagogy and practice of early childhood educators, school-age providers, elementary educators, and support staff working with children 0-8 years with complex diagnoses and/or neurodiversabilities. The workshops and keynotes presented will invite you to dialogue, to listen, to create openings for new possibilities, to challenge you to think otherwise, and importantly, to consider how we can each differently respond to the complex and situated needs of the children and families with whom we work.
We hope that you each leave the conference feeling that you too belong to an expanded network of support within your community that support you in the important work that you do alongside of children and families.
Thank you,
Amielle, Carmen, Chelsie, Cheryl, Julia, Julie, Samantha and Vanessa
