About this Event
Many of the best wines come from vines grown in extreme conditions, at the limits of their range. While they need plenty of sun and warmth to ripen, it is often the effect of factors like altitude that delay that ripening and allow the grapes to achieve their fullest potential rather than simply broiling.
In this tasting we look at wines where altitude is all important, from the Alps to the islands of the Aegean, the volcanic slopes of Etna to old vines in the Andes. The stylistic range is broad with fresh whites like Savoie's Rousette next to broad shouldered, saline Assyrtiko, tangy reds like Schiava alongside brooding Taurasi.
Our shop tastings start at 7.30pm and run for approximately one-and-a-half to two hours. We will taste 6-8 wines on a theme, and bread, cheese and charcuterie is provided to match with the wines. Due to the communal nature of the tasting, we are unable to cater for dietary requirements.
