About the Book:
Skunk Cabbage is a close-up look at the grief and day-to-day struggle immediately following a huge loss, born out of my experience losing my beloved mom.
The storyline follows Alissa Quillen as she navigates the loss of her parents, starting in a dark place in which she feels paralyzed in her pain and moving toward a place of healing and hope. Unsure of what to do, 26-year-old Alissa comes upon a box of her mom's old journals and uses them as a "guide" of sorts for a road trip. This journey leads her to unexpected people and places, and, eventually, to a place she never thought she'd dare go, to find the answers to family secrets she didn't know existed.
About the Author:
Jenna Slot is a first-time author. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and Writing from Grand Valley State University, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from GVSU and a master’s degree in nursing from Kent State University. As far back as she can remember, she has always loved to write stories, even as a young girl. Her inspiration for writing comes mostly from memories of her beloved mother, parenting her four boys, her career as a labor and delivery nurse, and most importantly from her faith in Jesus Christ. In addition to writing, Jenna is an avid reader, loves to run, makes the best cookies you’ll ever taste (also, it's her side hustle biz---Doreen's Doughs), and is a self-proclaimed grammar nerd. Jenna resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan with her husband and four sons.
