Atlantic Gallery is pleased to announce Skipping Along a solo exhibition of new
works by Arlene Farenci. This marks Farenci’s second solo show with the gallery
and features a vibrant selection of abstract paintings and prints on paper created
between 2024 and 2025.
The exhibition title Skipping Along reflects the playful energy that defines Farenci’s
approach to mark-making. Her rhythmic brushstrokes travel across paper with a
vitality that feels kinetic — gestures so expressive they seem to want to leap off
the page. Working primarily with acrylics for their immediacy and ability to preserve
movement Farenci favors oversized bristly brushes where each stroke has a
character of their own.
Farenci embraces the unpredictability of materials like sumi ink on xuan paper allowing the medium’s fluidity to guide her. In her bold carborundum prints texture becomes a central focus — tactile raw and imperfect. Whether working in color or in black and white Farenci’s work remains rooted in a deep respect for the expressive potential of materials. Skipping Along captures the essence of her evolving practice: spirited physical and joyfully unrestrained.
Arlene Farenci earned her BS in Fine Arts from CUNY Hunter College. She pursued additional printmaking studies at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and the Manhattan Graphics Center as well as through intensive workshops with master printers Anthony Kirk and Michael Costello. Her work has been exhibited widely and has received numerous awards. She has shown in venues including the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) Greenwich Art Society Duoro Print Biennial Silvermine Gallery Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts 14C Art Fair Blue Mountain Gallery Prince Street Gallery and Atlantic Gallery where she is a member.
