Join us for an evening celebrating the work of skate - and Swansea - legend Skin Phillips, whose exhibition 360° opens today in the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. Following the opening you are invited to the afterparty here at Elysium as part of our High Street Rising programme of events.Renowned for his work with San Diego’s Transworld Skateboarding magazine, Skin Phillips has been a pivotal figure in documenting the skateboarding world. His photography not only captures the adrenaline and artistry of skateboarding but also narrates the cultural shift from an underground subculture to a global phenomenon.
The exhibition will feature a curated selection of Phillips’ most influential images, as well as unseen images, archival materials, spanning decades of skateboarding evolution.
The night will feature music from the amazing Nookee, who will be making their Elysium debut.
A soulful story driven fusion of funky grooves and ethereal harmony.
More a family bond than a band, NOOKEE’s fronting identical twin sisters weave blood-matched harmonies through genre-defying sounds from their newfound brothers.
Unrestrained by any method, this group’s curated live show has been likened to that of Frank Zappa and Earth, Wind & Fire. Bringing to the stage more than just sound, this six-piece band takes advantage of all performative elements including outfits, props, narrative and theatrics.
Nookee’s set sonically ebbs and flows through a spectrum of emotions showcasing the powerful vocals of 70’s soul, hypnotic grooves from Samba to Disco and the punchy sounds of psych rock.
