‘Between skin and skin, there is only light.’ (Haruki Murakami)
What is it about?
Skin Between is a performance and workshop process emerging from the collective isolation of the Covid-19 Pandemic. It explores deeper listening to and expression of our individual bodies in a performative context. Every moment we absorb and expel innumerable types of bacteria, breath, energy, emotion and information. It is with the skin that we understand the boundaries between our inner and outer worlds, how we touch another body and feel love on a visceral level.
As a queer, transgendered dance artist, I am particularly curious how queer bodies, as well as queer notions of love and relationships can confront and question patriarchal heteronormative colonial powers. I believe it is through deep listening to our own unique bodies, that transformation and expression can redefine our place in the arts and society in general.
'Skin Between' has been performed at Backsteinboot Artist Collective in Spandau (July 2020), had a residency at Trauma Bar und Kino (7 - 20 September and 20 November to 6 December) and Tanzfabrik (2 - 5 November) and has been offered as a two week laboratory at The Village and Backsteinboot community spaces from new to full moon (22 September - 1 October) with performance at FreshEra at Else Club .

Born out of 2020 and the Covid-19 lock downs, this project has been fluid and adaptable to regulations and safety. It was performed first live to a small scale audience (18th September, Trauma Bar und Kino) and then live streamed (4th December, Trauma Bar und Kino). We collectively found embodied freedom in the imposed limitations and wanted to remind our audiences of the importance of deep body wisdom in a time of such intense body fear.
Utilising accumulated improvisational structures as both personal healing modalities and collective performance strategies, we created framed performative contexts that allowed for unknown occurrences between performers, and between performers and audiences. We worked in symbiosis with the given space of Trauma Bar und Kino, utilising all rooms and facets, including; kitchen, bathroom, entrance, stairway, and the studio space itself. Using our phones, we each live streamed our performance onto Instagram, given audiences multiple perspectives.
In 2021 'Skin Between' will be performed as a monthly performance ritual to coincide with each Full Moon. We are seeking festival, funding, and residency opportunities, to broaden our practice and share with a wider audience. Working with community spaces including The Village & Backsteinboot, we will use a combination of live and live stream performances to create collective dance ritual that can shift energy between bodies and breakthrough the boundaries of fear which our current crises has infected people with.
On February 28th, the day after the full moon (and my birthday), I am deeply grateful to share this workshop performance ritual at PopUp Studio as invited by Nadine.
At it’s heart, ‘Skin Between’is about a deep trust through and between the bodies who perform it. I finish this description with a quote that has permeated the creative process, from ‘ColourlessTsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage’ by Haruki Murakami:

‘Between skin and skin, there is only light.’

About Tsuki:
Tsuki trained in classical ballet from age five, graduating from Australian Ballet School in 2008. She has danced with companies and freelance projects in Israel, Melbourne and Berlin from 2009 - present.
She is now a Ballet and Ashtanga Yoga Teacher, and Performance Artist based in Berlin. She teaches her practice of Ashtanga Moon Yoga in her flat, with community groups, and live stream. She regularly performs solo and collaborative performance projects influenced by her multidisciplinary training.
She has performed her collaborative work in Berlins most infamous night clubs and queer parties including; Tresor, KitKat Club, Suicide Cirucus, Night Embassy, Maze Club, TrashEra at Wilde Renate and Else Club, KaKe Club, as well as Theatres venues such as Ackerstadt Palast Theatre, with Amalgam Solo Festival. She has performed two seasons of 'Body Play' with Chaim Gebber Open Scene at Pfefferberg Theater and is currently rehearsing with them on M.O.S.T (My Ongoing Silent Transcendence). She performed over July, to October in Overmorrow at Wilde Renate in collaboration with Leisa Prowd, Valerie Renay and Ana Bathe.
Ballet and Yoga give her and her students rigor and repetition, allowing for a deeper personal research of contemporary dance practice. She also has over 10 years of Butoh training and performance experience. Butoh uses the body itself as a resource for new material and movement research, finding the dance within, movement in stillness. It is this very contrast with Ballet and Yoga, which uses specific forms and movements, which inspires a physical dialogue between her practices.
