Responding to local skills needs and navigating change in Swindon and Wiltshire
About this Event

The Swindon and Wiltshire Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) has been running for nearly three years. As we come to the end of Stage Two of our work, we’d like to invite you to our Skills, Local Growth Planning and LSIP Update 2025, hosted at STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway.

This half day event is an opportunity for you to:

  • Get the latest updates from the LSIP team
  • Hear from a panel with LSIP Partners discussing skills
  • Hear from local area employers and key industry professionals
  • Connect with peers whilst enjoying networking and refreshments

Attendees will enjoy a busy, thought-provoking agenda, covering skills from a variety of angles.

The day will start with a welcome from our venue, followed by a presentation from the LSIP team on our research findings, updates on progress, changes within the Department for Education and the launch of Skills England, finished off with a Q&A for you to ask your questions to our speakers.

Our expert panel from across the local area:

  • Iain Hatt, Principal & Chief Executive, or Jo Grenfell, Deputy Principal - Curriculum & Quality, Wiltshire College & University Centre - LSIF Lead (to be confirmed)
  • Laura Arlott, Skills Advisor, Swindon and Wiltshire Business and Growth Unit
  • Sally Burnett, Head of Skills and Education Partnerships, Swindon Borough Council
  • Katie Cross, Partnerships and Business Development Manager, Wiltshire Council

They be discussing changes to the skills system in the last year, the local area’s needs and what is coming up for skills, economy and other important updates in Swindon and Wiltshire.

Lastly, we’ll be joined by Jenna Sangwin, Learning and Development Manager at Good Energy and Max Symonds, Commercial Manager at Castle Combe Circuit who will discuss their perspective on Skills as employers.

Guests will then be able to enjoy networking and refreshments with other businesses across the local area, whilst reflecting on updates from the event and have the opportunity to ask our speakers more questions in the networking area.

With skills playing such a big part in the future of industry throughout Swindon and Wiltshire, we’d love to welcome you to this event to share crucial update, the progress we have made in the Local Skills Improvement Plan for the area, other core work on education and training in the region and our hopes for the future.

We look forward to seeing you there.
