Delivered in partnership by the University of Plymouth at the University of Exeter in Cornwall

Sector and Career Skills Awareness Development - half-day session at the University of Exeter, Penryn Campus in Cornwall


Join us for a highly engaging afternoon developing awareness and understanding of floating offshore wind (FLOW), the career opportunities in this sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and the skills and training pathways towards a career in FLOW.


Supported by academic experts within the University of Exeter Engineering and Business Schools, and the University of Plymouth Sustainable Earth Institute, this afternoon taster session will help you develop awareness of careers in the offshore wind sector and how to develop the skills needed to access high-value green careers in this exciting growing sector.


This is for you if you:

  • Are interested in exploring varied greener careers in high growth potential sectors such as renewable energy across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
  • Would like to develop your understanding of the FLOW sector and skills needed for a career in FLOW
  • Are keen to make new connections and develop your network across the sector in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly
  • Are interested in further related training opportunities to develop skills for your future career

Next Steps

Following this taster event, the Universities will offer students the opportunity to sign up for follow-on deeper training sessions based on the taster workshop topics above. Details of these will be provided at the event.


Who is it for?

This event is open to individuals (16+) living in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who may be interested in working in and around this emerging sector. This includes, but is not limited to, Higher Education and Further Education students studying in Cornwall; early/mid-career working individuals looking for a career change or to upskill; and local businesses working within the FLOW sector or interested in entering the sector or related supply chains.

The aim is to raise awareness of the FLOW sector and local career opportunities and pathways, to encourage people to explore pursuing careers in this new and emerging green energy sector.

Eligibility & Paperwork

This fully funded event is free to attend. If you are an eligible Cornish resident, you will be asked to sign paperwork on arrival at the event. This is a requirement of our funder & your assistance is greatly appreciated.


UK Subsidy Control

This is an introductory taster event for The Future is Green UK Shared Prosperity Funded project. The event is free to attend and open to all. As such no UK Subsidy Aid (government state aid) value is attributed to engagement with this activity.


About the Project - The Future is Green

This event is delivered in partnership by the University of Exeter and the University of Plymouth under The Future is Green project, a collaborative research project that delivers skills development courses and programmes to individuals across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The project's aim is to support the development of skills needed for the future green economy. The project is led by The Cornwall College Group in collaboration with 8 highly experienced delivery partners, including the University of Exeter. The project runs from January 2024 to March 2025.

This project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
