About this Event

Truro and Penwith College has collaborated with Kernow Health's Primary Care Training Hub, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, Health and Care Academy and the Independent Care Board to co-develop this innovative Skills Bootcamp in Clinical Pathways for adult learners (aged 19 and over).

Introductory Session:

  • Course starts on 12th January 2026 and runs until 16th March 2026
  • An opportunity to meet with the expert Lecturer in Clinical Pathways
  • Take part in activities to get a better understanding of the content and study requirements of the full taught programme
  • Discover the benefits of becoming an adult learner at Truro and Penwith College
  • The team will have an open conversation to discuss your career aspirations and any additional support or accessibility needs.

Course Outline:

The Skills Bootcamp in Clinical Pathways is a ten-week course that develops core clinical skills and competencies for existing Health and Social Care sector employees working in Social Care to enable them to progress into senior healthcare or clinical roles, or onto an apprenticeship or further educational pathway, with previous learners successfully securing places on the Level 5 Nursing Associate programme.

The knowledge and skills acquired through the Skills Bootcamp align with National Occupational Standards at Level 3 and learners who complete the Skills Bootcamp may be able to reduce programme duration if they progress on to further accredited qualifications or an apprenticeship.

The course has been specifically designed so that all learners participate in the core topics detailed above and will then complete tailored units aligned to their professional environment, with distinct specialist pathways developed for Primary Care and Social Care professionals.

Across the ten-weeks, specialist tutors from Truro and Penwith College and expert Health and Social Care practitioners will deliver knowledge and skills in a comprehensive range of topics specifically identified to support professional competencies for Social Care, including:

· Introduction to Professional Practice

· Understanding Physiological Measurements

· Introduction to RESTORE2 – Physical Deterioration and Escalation Tool

· Supporting Bowel and Bladder Care

· Pressure Ulcer Prevention

· Nutrition and Hydration

· Oral Hygiene

· Introduction to Safe Medicines Administration

· Falls Prevention and Management

· Mental Health in Social Care

· Dementia Training

· Introduction to Diabetes

· Cornwall and Isles of Scilly End of Life Passport

Feedback from previous Skills Bootcamp in Clinical Pathways learners:

'Outstanding tutor support from the team. Plenty of resources made available and there were always opportunities to ask questions, as well as carry out practical applications. The course was always interesting, boosted confidence and has opened up opportunities for future self/career development.'

'Couldn't have asked for a more considerate, fantastic tutor who has enabled me to learn new skills and has opened up future possibilities for career development. The support and information has been absolutely fantastic, valuable and I would love to see the bootcamp expanded out to others as it is too good a course to miss.'

Learners will also benefit from access to industry experts, College tutors and clinical mentors throughout the Skills Bootcamp to support next steps for education, employment or professional development.
