This skillCONNECT is a highly structured, several hour event, designed to bring the expertise of business professionals to ten local schools facing business challenges. Each school has been selected to be a part of BVM's School Partnership Accelerator program. Projects include helping school staff with challenges related to marketing, staffing, budgeting, supply distribution, technology, and more.
This special in-person event features breakfast, networking, and sweeping views of the Inner Harbor in CareFirst’s Canton office building. Free parking will be provided.
What is skillCONNECT?
skillCONNECT is a special event led by that connects community-based organizations to a team of skilled volunteers for discussion, consulting, ideation, and development of solutions to general business challenges. Volunteers represent employers from around the region and come with a wide range of professional skills in marketing, operations, finance, IT, HR, sales, legal, real estate, and more.
What can I expect?
As a volunteer consultant, you can expect skillCONNECT to be an engaging, structured, pro bono session managed by Business Volunteers Maryland. Volunteers will be divided into teams with varying professional skillsets that cater to the nonprofits/schools’ specific needs. Then, nonprofit/school leaders will bring a business challenge they are facing to their teams. Teams will be guided through a design thinking process in order to provide a structured, efficient, and experience that lends itself to tangible takeaways for the concerned organization.
How will I be placed on a team?
BVM asks you to submit your background and skillset through this registration form: https://airtable.com/appgLu6OquKdSFKdd/shrbmO9xdopWBCJD3. Please note that you are not registered for the event until you complete this step. BVM will place you on a team we feel you are best suited for. We appreciate you being open to working with any of the amazing organizations selected for this event!
What if I don't have much experience in consulting?
From experience, BVM can promise that EVERYONE has knowledge they can contribute to a skillCONNECT session. Many of the professional skills you might take for granted are invaluable to nonprofits and schools! Tens of volunteers before you have expressed nervousness and feelings of imposter syndrome, only to be amazed by how much they can offer in these events.
