Sketching is such a lovely practice! Sketching is loose and quick, and it allows us to accept imperfection and embrace chance! Whether you keep a sketchbook, a garden, or nature journal, or want to create a quick impression on loose paper, watercolor can be a great choice for capturing the vibrant beauty of flowers! The same properties that make watercolor so wonderful also make it a bit challenging! In this workshop, you will begin to develop a “feel” for watercolor and how to encourage the medium to paint for you! Simple exercises make color-mixing, value control, and brush-handling easy!
Next, we will practice seeing the simple shapes of flowers and applying our watercolor skills to create beautiful, loose sketches of the natural world. We will use value and color intensity to create a sense of light, shadow, and form in our flowers and see how using negative space can give our sketches a bit more pizazz!
It will be a wonderful day of sketching fragrant spring flowers in watercolor!
