In this workshop, led by Lisa Hirth, you’ll be taken on a journey that will kickstart a new habit of artistic journaling and regular sketchbook usage. Learn how to set yourself free and draw without pressure but with more confidence in every mark and brushstroke you make. By practising sketch techniques and observation skills, we will start the journey of developing our creative voices together.
Session One - November 8th, 5.30pm - 7.30pm
In the first session, we will be tackling the “basics,” from picking the right sketchbook to sketching with graphite and/or pencil colours, being more confident with our lines and shapes and understanding how every mark we make can be intentional and effective. By sketching from observation, building a mind bank from our lives and those who inspire us, and bringing in our own personalities, a unique style will begin to come through your work, as long as you give yourself the time and space to do so.
Session Two November 9th, 10.30am - 12.30pm
In the second session, we will move on to watercolour and/or gouache, building on the first session and also understanding how these mediums can work as sketch materials by themselves. Thanks to the versatility of these paints, we can explore a variety of styles and techniques and build on and reinterpret what we did in the first session.
Required Materials and More Info
Feel free to bring your own materials. Workshop participants benefit from a 15% discount on artist materials at Galea’s*. Every participant will also receive SM-LT goodies! Refreshments will be available.
