Skeiv Verden invites you to our International Conference on Intersectionality 2025!
This year's conference will be held on the 6th of November in Oslo (and streamed digitally).
For 2025, the theme of the conference is Intersectionality and Mental Health!
Intersectionality is a central framework for understanding how different identity markers interact in relation to society’s mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion. This shapes both one’s quality of life and one’s access to support services. By taking an intersectional approach to mental health, we can gain a deeper understanding of both our own and others’ lives.
Intersectionality is complex precisely because it complicates reality. We believe that this is the strength of the intersectional perspective: it allows us to see the complexity of the reality in which we and others live. Without intersectionality, our lives risk being reduced to one-dimensional narratives, and important nuances are lost.
Speakers:
Skyler Jackson (he/him). Jackson is a psychologist and Associate Professor of Public Health in the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences at Yale University. His clinical work and research programme focuses on how people's social identities (e.g., race, gender, sexual orientation) shape their everyday lives and influence their health and quality of life.
Winnie Nyheim-Jomisko (she/her). Nyheim-Jomisko is a psychologist and speaker at the Centre for Intersectionality. Her expertise is within cross-cultural psychology, diversity competence, minority stress and trauma, and intersectionality.
Ingrid Thunem (they/them). Thunem is a researcher and activist in the field of sexuality and disability. They identify as non-binary/trans and live north of the Arctic Circle.
Panel discussion on Decolonizing Mental Health (more information to come).
Koyote Millar (they/them). Millar is a poet, singer, psychotherapist and facilitator. They are curious and often confused, keen to explore fears, desires and old defences, and are deeply grateful for all moments of joy and peace.
Vikram Kolmannskog (he/him). Kolmannskog is a professor at the Norwegian Gestalt Institute, a psychotherapist in private practice and an author. He is queer and has a multicultural background with a Norwegian father and mother with Indian roots - something that is reflected in both his interests and work.
Venue:
House 21 (previously called The Conduit), same place as last year. Digital participation is also possible.
The conference will start at 09:00 and end at 15:30.
From 16:00-18:00, we will have an after work at the same venue to keep the good conversations going!
The venue is universally designed.
