Six Week Level 1 Silversmithing Class Sept/October

Beginners Level 1 Jewellery-Making Class

This six-week, Saturday morning course will introduce you to the foundation skills of jewellery making and silversmithing, where you will learn the basics of jewellery making in consecutive weekly classes that last three hours.

This course caters for the complete novice, completely new to the industry and ready to begin their jewellery journey. In this class, you will learn about the basic material quality of metal and the tools required for jewellery making, as well as being shown how to use them in a safe and proper manner. You’ll be briefed on the techniques that are needed to get you through the beginnings of jewellery making including sawing, shaping and doming, alongside embossing, soldering and chainmaking.

Here at the School we are experienced enough to understand that learning to make jewellery is a skill which needs building with careful tuition and one to one attention throughout the classes, where each student gets to learn and practice specific techniques in each of our block of courses rather than cramming everything in to a few days which does not allow for knowledge retention.

All our tutors are very experienced professional jewellery designers who have worked in the creative industries, taught at universities and who have exhibited and made work for clients internationally. We believe strongly in providing a fun but safe and professional learning experience where your skills will grow at your own pace and your achievements will be celebrated in a progressive and warming environment!

The block is split into two, with the first three weeks spent learning these introductory jewellery techniques, and then for the next three weeks you will be supported in making your own piece of jewellery or small collection!

You then have the option to move onto our Mixed Abilities class or even take a specialist class later on in the year!
