Six Ft. Swells Press Celebrates 20 Years of Publishing After-Hours Poetry!Looking for a good time? Infamous poetry press, Six Ft. Swells returns to Grass Valley for a one night stand of pure poetry debauchery. The publishers and pirate poets: Julie Valin, Todd Cirillo and Matt Amott—want to not only celebrate the poets and books they’ve published over the last 20 years—but the community the press was born in.
Six Ft. Swells started on a moonlit night at Gary’s Place in Grass Valley in 2005 as the three poet friends jammed the jukebox, ordered drinks, and talked about putting after-hours poetry out in the world. They will celebrate with a poetry reading for the launch of their two new books: From the Top Shelf: A Six Ft. Swells Anthology, 2005-2025, and Three Poets Walk Into a Bar, by Todd Cirillo, Julie Valin and Matt Amott.
The event features performances by Todd Cirillo, Julie Valin, Matt Amott with local poets Will Staple and Marilyn Souza, plus San Francisco poet, William Taylor, Jr. It isn’t a party without you! Books will be available for sale at the event. Bonus points if you buy a poet a beer!
The press has a reputation for dynamic events, bringing the audience into the show by encouraging participation, creating a rowdy, fun, and celebratory atmosphere. They view poetry readings as an excuse for a party, a getting together for good times around great words. Their events have been described as closer to a 1982 Van Halen show than a poetry reading. Sliding scale tickets are *$5-20 per person. Tickets *start at $5 for this event, *but, if you can, consider adding a few bucks to your ticket purchase. This helps us to feed and pay the artists more, and helps us cover venue costs for bringing a rich diversity of cultural events to our community. xo

PARKING: Pub has free parking. More parking is nearby at the corner of Mill & McCourtney, a 2-minute walk. Across from Pub, French Ave has parking. Carpooling is encouraged - our neighbors appreciate it.
