Join Dr Andrew Fear and meet six Roman Emperors in a series of six fascinating talks.Ticket cost: £17
Emperors ruled Rome for over four hundred years. This set of talks looks at both their rise and fall. It starts with the founder of Imperial system, Augustus, “the father of his country”, and goes on to think about the reigns of the Nero and Trajan, regarded at the time as the very worst and very best of emperors. We then look the “Restorer of the World”, the forgotten emperor Aurelian, who saved the system from total collapse. We go on to examine the rule of Constantine the Great which began with a coup in Britan and changed the world forever. We end by looking at the “emperor who never slept”, Justinian, who almost resurrected the fallen empire in the West and ensured that Roman rule in Constantinople would last for almost another thousand years.
Dr Fear is a lecturer in Roman History at Manchester University.
