Come join us for a seed and fruit tree scion exchange in Florence, OR. This event intends to increase regional food sovereignty by distributing open pollenated seeds to enhance food security, to increase genetic diversity of our food crops, and identify plants best adapted to our climate, and to connect people on the Central Coast with local resources, services, and support thereby developing our resiliency and capacity to endure economic and natural disasters .This propagation fair is being supported by the Agrarian Sharing Network. ASN volunteers have collected over 300 unique varieties of apple, pear, peach, quince, plum, fig, grape and other scions available to the public for free. Come pick out your favorites to graft to rootstock and take home a tree made just for you. Rootstock will be for sale at the event $3-$5.
Our friends at the Agrarian Sharing Network have also grown and prepared 100s of vegetable, herb and flower seeds to share. Many of these are heirloom varieties and regional selections by regional breeders developed specifically to grow well in Western Oregon.
There will be several educational speakers as well. Come learn what it takes to garden on the Oregon Coast. Learn about Farm to Table efforts to bring healthier and fresher produce from local farms into our restaurants and shops. Find out about saving seeds and why events like this are important to stewarding the diversity and quality of the foods we eat.
We are calling this a seed and scion exchange, but feel free to come empty handed and take home a few seeds you are sure to treasure. If you do have seeds or scions to share, we welcome your contributions to our event, but it isn't necessary. There is always the opportunity to become involved with the Cascadia Seed Guild and our Seed Increase Initiative too.
