The Black Box Studio at Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society at 1131 Howe Street.

Our entrance is located in the back lane directly behind the Cinematheque, under an overhanging parking lot. Max capacity of 40 people.

Please note that Cineworks only has access to the first three parking spaces next to our entrance. We kindly encourage anyone driving to our space to consider using metered parking in the surrounding streets or one of the parking lots located nearby. Thank you.

Hugh, a storyteller and filmmaker, traces his roots back to China. At 14, he embarked on an exciting journey when his family moved to Canada. Hugh's creative works have been showcased at the Vancouver International Youth Film Festival as part of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival program, and film retrospective screenings at the Cineworks Independent Filmmaker Society. His latest 16mm analogue film, "Bound to No One," made a mark by winning the Leo Award 2024 Best Student Production. Being selected for the 27th Vancouver Asian Film Festival, the film received a screening at the International Village Cineplex. Hugh's narrative artistry and cinematic style reflect his passion for storytelling with a blend of multi-cultural themes and his ability to explore and create a captivating visual language with unique aesthetics. Currently, Hugh works in the film industry as a PA within the DGC logbook program.
