About this Event

This 5 week long XO version of the original long running Sister Courage Feminist Self Defence class goes a little harder and faster into self defence and martial arts practice.

With the same backbone of understanding and identifying the harm done by the culture of entitlement and misogyny, this class centralises on empowerment via physical and verbal expression.

This will be five weeks of developing our fitness, strength and flexibility to build our confidence in a supportive atmosphere that understands the difficulty all women may have with approaching physical force. It literally is a toolbox for you to use, whatever your decision.

Self defence is a choice, it is not a responsibility, but in the three years of running back to back sessions, I can honestly say that many folks have come out feeling better, stronger and more confident through gaining empowerment in their body. It's about not only learning to trust your instincts, but also your physical skills.


What you can expect:

We work on developing our own toolbox of options; using our body language for boundary calling; verbal de-escalation to divert or call out behaviour ; physical tactics to disrupt threat.

Basic strength, fitness and movement which tones the body and helps overall well-being

Patterns of martial movement from traditional Kung Fu that train the mind, the body, and also the freeze reaction that we all can fear.

Basic verbal scripts to challenge or de escalate a variety of misogynistic scenarios we might encounter, and help identifying language of entitlement, misogyny and gaslighting

At the back of it all simple physical skills like strikes, blocks, kicking and evading grips; a good overal work out in a place where you can channel your energy, your frustration and anger into something more positive.

I have been training women now for nearly thirty years, and I still love every moment that I get to support someone to know something new about themselves.

This class is inclusive of all women of all levels of ableness and fitnes. It is also inclusive of all women: trans, non-binary/ gender fluid and queer.
