About this Event
Trace the powerful flow of history through the heart of Blaenau Gwent on this 6.4 km guided wellbeing walk along the Sirhowy Valley. Once a vital transport route for iron and coal, the valley is now a place where nature and memory walk side by side.
Led by The Wellsynergy Project in partnership with ROC Adventure, this walk invites you to journey through time along old tram roads, iron bridges and woodland trails, exploring how the landscape has evolved from industrial artery to tranquil escape. As we walk, we’ll reflect on the movement, energy and transformation that have shaped this valley.
What to Expect:
This accessible walk meanders alongside the River Sirhowy, through restored woodlands and remnants of early industrial infrastructure. With gentle pacing, we’ll pause to explore the stories hidden in the stone and steel, the quiet return of wildlife and the resilience of the valley’s communities. Expect a mindful, inclusive experience rooted in history, nature and shared connection.
Walk Highlights Include:
• Former tram roads – Follow the tracks of early industrial transport that once powered South Wales’ economy
• Iron bridges and crossings – Discover engineering feats and the lasting footprint of the Industrial Age
• The River Sirhowy – A living thread of the valley’s past and present, flowing with memory and renewal
