Born in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1960, Richard Bishop is an acclaimed experimental solo guitarist and a pivotal figure in the band Sun City Girls, known for his music's global influences, particularly from India, the Middle East, and North Africa. After moving to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1979, he co-founded Sun City Girls in 1981, an experimental underground group that released over 50 full-length albums between 1981 and 2007. Bishop's solo career took off with his 1998 debut, Salvador Kali, under the moniker Sir Richard Bishop, and he has since released numerous albums, including Polytheistic Fragments and The Freak of Araby, showcasing diverse instrumentation and global inspirations. He also formed the group Rangda in 2010 with Ben Chasny and Chris Corsano, and continues to release new material, with Hillbilly Ragas due in September 2025.
