Talk:
The 21st century will witness reparatory justice for the crimes against humanity committed during modern colonialism. Across post-colonial states, the descendants of those affected by these crimes in North Atlantic imperial nations are advocating for reparatory justice. In this talk, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles will discuss how, together, they are constituting a global movement that could become the greatest political force of the century.
Bio:
Professor Sir Hilary Beckles is Vice Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Chancellor of the UN University in Japan, and a United Nations committee official and a global public activist in the field of social justice and minority empowerment. He holds leadership positions across sectors such as academia, finance, education, and global policy, including SAGICOR Financial Corporation PLC, Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) and the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Center. He has also been appointed as Chancellor / Chair of the United Nations University with effect from March 2025. He has received numerous awards, including honorary doctorates from six universities and the prestigious Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award for his contributions to social justice, equity, and economic development. Through his well-versed lectures across continents, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed essays and 20 books.

A reception will follow the talk to recognize the occasion of a new partnership agreement between Northwestern University and The University of the West Indies, and celebrate the transformative impact of global education and international exchange.
