Join us for a discussion on iconic buildings designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, and their re-adaptation in the wake of the 21st century.
About this Event

As part of the centenary celebrations, the Cathedral hosts a series of events honoring the architectural legacy of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, on the anniversary of Scott’s birth in November 2024.

Join us for a discussion on some of the iconic buildings designed by Giles Gilbert Scott such as Battersea power station, recently redeveloped, and Bankside power station, now Tate Modern.

The panel of experts considers Scott’s oeuvre, and the challenges of readapting heritage buildings for new uses in the wake of the 21st century. How do architects balance the need to respect the heritage of these edifices, whilst creating designs that fit today’s needs?

Speakers include Wynn Chandra, Associate Studio Director, Herzog & De Meuron, Dr David Lewis, Architectural Historian, University of Oxford, and Armstrong Yakubu, Foster+Partners. The panel will be moderated by Iain Jackson, Professor of Architecture and Research Director at the Liverpool School of Architecture. Tickets include a welcome drink.

This event is in partnership with RIBA North and the Liverpool Architecture Society. Thank you to The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art for supporting this event.
