"The play takes place on a lovely June evening in 1926, at the seaside villa of Sara and Gerald Murphy, on the French Riviera. The Murphys have invited several other artists to a reception in honor of Ernest Hemingway, but only the Hemingways and Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald attend. Despite the pleasant setting and convivial intent, it is an evening fraught with bitter quarrels, misbehavior and a sense of impending disaster.The sources of the evening’s friction are many. Scott is jealous of Ernest because his own literary career is in decline, while Ernest’s literary rise seems imminent. Zelda Fitzgerald exhibits the first signs of the mental illness that will darken her remaining years.
Shooting Stars, Falling Stars is a dark comedy with witty and hilarious dialogue, outrageous behavior, as well as poignant and shocking moments.
