Sip + Sculpt :: Pinch Pumpkins w\/ Sarah Riley
Join Sarah Riley and create your very own handmade pottery! All levels are welcome.
About this Event

Join Sarah Riley and create and carve your own clay pumpkin in time for Halloween! All levels are welcome — you’ll learn basic hand-building techniques to build your own clay creation -- with just your hands and a few basic tools!

In this class, Sarah will teach you how to pinch, coil, sculpt, and refine your clay to create a small pumpkin sculpture. Once you learn these methods, you'll be able to carve and decorate your form to make it your own!

When you're finished, Sarah will fire and glaze your pieces, and they'll be available for pick up 2 weeks after the class. Clay and tools will be provided -- just bring your own creativity and get ready to have some fun!

Ceramic Artist and Educator, Sarah Riley, has been playing with clay and honing her craft since 2010. A hand builder in high school, a wheel thrower in college, and current 3D Art & Design teacher at The Field School, she combines the variety of techniques she’s collected over the last decade and infuses sculpture in her graduate work. Fascinated by both function and form, her work aims to maintain elements of the process and the potential of the fresh clay in the final, fired product. Sarah is constantly inspired by witnessing her students’ creative processes, by conversations with her community of family and friends, by textures found outdoors on her daily walks with her dog, and simply by the process of creating with wet clay.  She currently teaches Middle School and High School 3D Art & Design at The Field School in D.C. and is pursuing her MFA at Hood College.
